Coventry University and Coventry 4 Good Grant – Round 2 successful applicants announced

The Coventry University and Coventry 4 Good Grant aims to support voluntary and community organisations to develop projects and activities that encourage and improve social relations, involve volunteers and take place in areas near to Coventry University where there is a high student population.  The Fund offers the opportunity for organisations to test out new and innovative ideas whilst being supported by Coventry University staff and/or students.

Round 2 of the Coventry University and Coventry 4 Good Community Grant focused on supporting organisations delivering:

a) Activities that promote intergenerational collaboration.

b) Activities that are focused on increasing skills and employability.

c) Activities that link with FABLAB Coventry

Four organisations have been awarded funding:

The Highlife Centre - Youth Vision Project which aims to increase young people’s chances of having ‘better futures’ through developing employability and enterprise skills.

Women's Wellbeing boosted by FWT

Foleshill Womens Training successfully received funding from the Coventry University and Coventry 4 Good grant scheme (Round 1) to support their Wellbeing Workshops.   Christine McNaught & Sheridan Henderson reported below:   "The project began at the end of September 2015. So far we have delivered 40 themed ‘Wellbeing workshops’ (coffee mornings) every Wednesday at the Hillfields Hub, and Friday mornings at FWT.   The workshops have been designed with innovative and differing themes each week/month, to keep attendees interested, and to enable women to develop their skills continuously whilst beginning to tackle health inequalities and confidence issues.    Since September 2015, 15 new women have been engaged and are regularly attending the Hillfields Hub Workshops. WWT have a Vision for Volunteering

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust successfully secured funding from the Coventry University and Coventry 4 Good grant scheme (Round 1) to support their Vision Volunteering project.

Matthew Cox, Youth Engagement Officer for Warwickshire Wildlife Trust said:

"The Vision Volunteering project in Hillfields has been running every Wednesday since the beginning of January 2016. The turnout from students at the University has been very consistent which has meant that we have already achieved a lot. So far 101 volunteer hours have been contributed to the area.

For the first half of the project we have been working on a community centre garden (pictured below), East Street pocket park litter pick and flower beds off Victoria road. As of the beginning of March the project has also extended to Leigh Street allotments on a Monday afternoon where there is some great opportunities for students and local community members to mix.

A Fresh Start for Coffee Tots

Coffee Tots successfully received funding from the Coventry University and Coventry 4 Good grant scheme (Round 1) to support their 'Fresh Start' Job Club. 

Catherine Bartlem said:

"Firstly we would like to thank Coventry University and Coventry 4 Good for their support over the last six months as part of the Coventry University Community Grant Fund.  We are both excited and encouraged by how the project is progressing.

Our job club is called “Fresh Start” (poster below) and was launched autumn 2015 with the aim of preparing people to be ready to make a fresh start in 2016.

We have been building (and will continue to build) a bank of work experience placements covering retail, office/admin, early years, building and charity sector.  These are mainly Coventry based but include one in Leamington (on the bus route from Coventry)."

Large one-off community action project needed

Eden Girls School are searching for a voluntary/community action project that 50 pupils could plan and deliver over the course of three days. The actual delivery of the project would not be until the 5th May 2016 but the school would like to hear from interested organisations as soon as possible.

There will be no financial cost to the organisation as the School would cover any expenses around painting/planting etc.
