On Monday 15th December 9 volunteers took part in Age UK's annual hamper wrapping activity. Age UK called upon the people of Coventry to help to make the festive season brighter for lonely, vulnerable and isolated people during Christmas.

Volunteers sorted out the donations, wrapped the boxes and filled the hampers ready for them to be delivered. 9 volunteers and 2 Voluntary Action Coventry colleagues were set the target of making 25 hampers during their session of volunteering. They made over double their target, wrapping and packing over 50 hampers.

Hampers typically include a present, such as toiletries, water bottle, blanket, gloves, scarf, food, non-alcoholic drinks and a festive greeting. The recipients of these wonderful hampers will include lonely, vulnerable and isolated individuals - many with poor physical and / or mental health. All of the recipients are over the age of 50; their...more

The Coventry 4 Good team at VAC hosted a free event on Tuesday 2nd December that bought businesses and professionals that wanted to share their time, skills and resources together with voluntary and community organisations in need of support. The lunch time ‘speed networking' event attracted interest from a range of local good causes that need help to undertake renovation projects, develop databases, create new play areas, support creative therapeutic sessions as well as those seeking donations of office furniture and goods that can be distributed to families in crisis. Sue Ogle, Director of Operations and Development said ‘We are delighted that this event has proved so popular with businesses and local good causes. It is fantastic to see people taking time out during the run up to Christmas to demonstrate their commitment to helping others'

This event was a first step for VAC in bridging the gap between the sectors and a way of testing whether networking events are the right approach. Some attendees felt they needed more...more

Volunteers have been brightening up dull November Fridays by getting together at our Volunteering Shop in Bull Yard, to create stunning Coventry 4 Good Christmas cards. With the help of VAC’s very talented volunteers Tanya Nicholls and Rachael Mackintosh, we’ve been joined by our friends from Arty-Folks, students from Coventry University, VSquad volunteers, and members of the public, to hand-craft a wealth of distinctive and beautiful cards.    Under the Coventry 4 Good brand the cards are instantly recognisable, as each card carries a label saying ‘Made by the people of Coventry’. Our volunteers have been uncovering their inner graphic designer, and one participant who came back for a second session, commented “I wouldn’t have missed it for the world”.   A passer-by, Christine Rees, liked the cards so much that she has chosen them this year to give to her fellow residents in sheltered accommodation, making a donation £28.00 to Coventry 4 Good in the process. Meanwhile, other cards are winging their way to Zimbabwe, after one supporter of Coventry 4 Good chose the cards to send to her friends and family there.   ...more

Or are you a local business/individual/public sector organisation looking for ways to increase your involvement supporting voluntary and community organisations in Coventry?

Either way this event is for you!

Coventry 4 Good (an initiative from Voluntary Action Coventry) is supporting the global campaign Giving Tuesday at a City level by hosting a networking event aimed at bringing those with something to give and those with a need together. This ‘speed dating' style event will provide an opportunity for local good causes to highlight what they need and for businesses/professionals to identify whether they can help. Whilst we can't guarantee romance we are sure that new relationships will be formed at the event.
