Our friends at The Wigley Group have done us proud once again with a temporary loan of a rotavator, through Coventry 4 Good, to the Old City Farm in Hillfields. Coventry 4 Good was approached by the project, which is run by Motorvate UK and Vanishing Barriers, who needed help to prepare the ground in order to grow food with local residents. Alan Greenway and Lee Hopkins from The Wigley Group not only delivered a rotavator to site, and demonstrated its use, but also contributed a can of petrol to help the work get underway.

Gardening Volunteer at the Old City Farm Niall O’Donnell said “this will make a huge difference to us during the summer – it means we can get on with our planting and be able to engage the local community. Thanks very much to Coventry 4 Good for your help.” And in return, Coventry 4 Good would like to thank The Wigley Group for their time and generosity...more

Coventry 4 Good Champion Rachael Mackintosh has raised an amazing £232.87 for Coventry 4 Good by organising recent music night Skank Out at The Golden Cross. Rachael persuaded a number of Coventry’s dj’s and hip-hop artists to give their time for free, to help raise money for local good causes. VAC’s Volunteering Service Supervisor Lucy Bergonzi caught up with Rachael to ask her about Skank Out, and about her first few months as Coventry 4 Good Champion.

Rachael said “I organised Skank Out as part of my assessed work for my Business & Event Management course at Warwickshire College. I had to plan an event and I decided to do it as a fundraiser for Coventry 4 Good. It was tiring to organise, but it was really good – I think the best part about it was being there on the night; the doormen collected the money and the artists did their thing, and I got to enjoy it as I’d done all the hard work already...more

The shoppers of Coventry showed their generosity at two recent Bag Packs run by Coventry 4 Good to raise money for organisations in the city.

In March, busy afternoon shoppers at Sainsburys in Trinity Street donated £46.32, encouraged by students from Sidney Stringer Academy’s community volunteering group.

And during the Easter holidays in April, shoppers at Morrison’s on Holyhead Road dug deep and donated £180.57 in return for help with their packing. Big thanks to our volunteers Justin Hoskins from Pure Gym, and Coventry 4 Good Champion Rachael Mackintosh for giving up their time to help us out.

It was great to meet and chat with so many of Coventry’s residents, and we would like to give a huge thankyou to staff and shoppers at both stores, and of course to all of our volunteers.more
